How it is calculated

The furnace compares the mixing ratio exactly. One ore too many or a foreign reagent gives slag (reagent mix). Temperature and pressure apply to the chamber, both limits are included. The pressure from ore gas is an estimate: ideal gas, the whole chamber at the minimum temperature, without gas already inside.
Each row shows the range in which the recipe smelts. An arrow means open at the top.
Dashed: from about 40 MPa the furnace groans, above a 60.8 MPa difference to its surroundings it can burst. Waspaloy needs at least 50 MPa and therefore already sits in the warning zone.

“Step” is the smallest ingot amount for which the ratio works out. The arc furnace only knows pure metals and charcoal, without temperature or pressure conditions.

Every ore gives exactly 1 unit of its reagent. While melting it also releases gas into the chamber, which raises the pressure. Charcoal (carbon) and coal ore (hydrocarbon) are different reagents.
