Electric Smelter 1.1.1: finally in your colour

A player reported that the smelter does not change colour with a spray can. From 1.1.1 the housing takes any spray paint – saved and visible to all players.

A player wrote on Steam: "the color does not change when you paint" – the spray can hisses, the paint is used up, the smelter stays red.

The reason: in the game the Electric Smelter is a rebuilt arc furnace with its own model. It had kept the arc furnace's grey paint material. So the game treated it as paintable and even stored the colour in the save. But it only colours surfaces that carry exactly this grey material – and the smelter's own model has none. That is why nothing visibly changed.

From 1.1.1 the smelter paints its housing itself:

  • The red housing takes the colour of the can, with spray can and spray gun. The metallic cans (gold, silver, bronze, obsidian) look metallic.
  • Everything else stays as it is: control panel, display, LEDs, buttons, main switch, sight glass with glow, input chute, output, exhaust, transformer, warning signs and labels.
  • Saved and visible to everyone: the colour is stored in the save and reaches all players, on dedicated servers too and for players who join later.
  • Already sprayed? Smelters you sprayed before the update now show their colour – the game had stored it all along.

The kit (cardboard box) stays unpainted, like the arc furnace kit. To check it there is the console command schmelzofen painttest: it briefly builds test smelters 30 m above you, paints them, checks saving, loading and the multiplayer sync, and removes them right away.

The server and all players need the same version; on a dedicated server replace the Elektro-Schmelzofen folder in its mods folder.
