What you learn today
- Connect solar and batteries
- Combine load shedding and grids
- Spot gaps
The pro level is heading for the exam. This week you bring back the big topics and connect them. Today: energy. You already know every part, what is new is how they play together.
The toolbox
| Topic | Core | Day |
|---|---|---|
| Sun position | daylight sensor, converting angles | 185–188 |
| Batteries | Ratio; station battery Mode = charge level 0–6 | 190 |
| Area power control | Mode = PowerMode (Idle 0 … Charged 4) | 191 |
| Load shedding | stages with hysteresis, unimportant things first | 192 |
| Generator | on with little reserve, off when full | 193 |
| Transformer | Setting limits the power passed on, in W | 199 |
| Cables | normal 5,000 W, heavy 100,000 W, super heavy 500,000 W | 200 |
| Grids | measure separately, control the transfer | 207 |
Connecting solar and batteries
During the day the sun recharges, at night it does not. The same reserve therefore means something different at different times of day: 35 % at noon is comfortable, 35 % in the evening gets tight. A chip can take that into account by making the shedding limit depend on daylight:
lbn night SENSOR HASH("Sonne") SolarIrradiance Average
sgt night night SUN
seqz night night # 1 = night or no sensor
select limit night C_NIGHT C_DAY
If the sensor fails, sgt returns 0 and seqz turns that into “night”. That is the careful direction: better to shed too early than to sit in the dark without power.
Combining load shedding and grids
Load shedding switches loads off. A transformer can do more: it throttles a whole grid without switching it off. If the workshop hangs behind a transformer, it only gets 1,000 W instead of 5,000 W when the reserve is low. Lights and ventilation there keep running, the arc furnace has to wait.
slt tmp level W_OFF
seqz power ok # batteries missing?
or tmp tmp power
select power tmp W_SAVE W_FULL
sbn TRAFO HASH("Werkstatt") Setting power
A NaN in the transformer's Setting is not a safe state. If the batteries are missing, the chip therefore explicitly writes the saving value – not the result of a calculation with NaN.
Spotting gaps
Go through the table above and ask yourself for each row: could I write this now without looking it up? Wherever you hesitate, a look back at the given day is worth it. Typical gaps at this point:
- Why does load shedding need a hysteresis too?
- What does
Averageover batteries return when none is on the network? - What happens behind a transformer when the supply exactly equals the demand?
Exercise
Task
Connect batteries, daylight and workshop grid:
- light “Komfort” off below the limit (day 30 %, night or without sensor 50 %), back on from limit + 15 %
- transformer “Werkstatt”:
Setting5000, below 20 % reserve or without batteries 1000 - display “Reserve” in whole percent, −1 without batteries
- without batteries comfort stays off
Hints
Hint 1
Night: sgt with SUN, then seqz – this turns NaN into night. Limit with select.
Hint 2
Comfort like load shedding: sge/and with the limit, sge/or with limit + BAND, then and … ok.
Hint 3
Transformer: slt with W_OFF or missing batteries, then select power tmp W_SAVE W_FULL.
Quiz
4 questions. You pass from 60 % – the server does the grading.
