Overview

Fridge Small (StructureFridgeSmall) in Stationeers: device, hash 751887598, 10 W, 10 L. With build steps, 71 IC10 logic values and connection diagram.

The Fridge Small is food storage with an atmosphere of its own. It has two slots, a gas pipe input and a gas space of 10 litres. It occupies four cells on the small grid, so 0.5 × 1 × 1 m.

Important to know: according to the game code it does not cool by itself. It has no power port. Every tick it equalises its gas space with the connected pipe network – it only gets cold inside if cold gas comes from the pipe. In return it hardly exchanges heat with the room: its factors for convection and radiation are 0. If you want a fridge with cooling of its own, take the Fridge (Large): it needs power and, according to the game code, cools to 142 K (−131 °C) at up to 1000 J per tick.

Why a gas space of its own? According to the game code food decays at a base rate times three factors of its surroundings:

FactorEffect
temperature0.2 at 0 K up to 1.8 at 500 K
pressure5 in vacuum down to 1 from 101 kPa
gasnitrogen 0.6, carbon dioxide 0.8, oxygen 1.5, pollutant 3

So food keeps best in cold nitrogen at 101 kPa or more. Bread with a base rate of 0.00025 keeps about 15 hours with all factors at 1; considerably longer in cold, pure nitrogen. Canned food, flour and sugar do not decay at all and need no fridge.

You read pressure and temperature inside via Pressure and Temperature, the gas fractions via RatioNitrogen, RatioOxygen and so on. That lets you check with IC10 whether the cooling gas is doing its job. Open opens and closes the door. Setting (0 to 100) is an inherited value that the small fridge does not use according to the game code.

It is built from the kit in one step and deconstructed with the hand drill. More on shelf life is in Food and cooking: nutrition, mood and shelf life.
