Nuclear Power Plant 1.2.0: nuclear factory, nuclear cells and shielded ore case
Collect uranium ore safely, tools with a nuclear cell, backup power for ages: the nuclear power plant gets nuclear technology for everyday use.
With 1.2.0 the nuclear power plant becomes more than a power plant. Three wishes were on the list: a case that takes the uranium ore while mining without irradiating you; nuclear batteries in different sizes; and a factory that turns them into tools.
The shielded ore case is a lead-lined hand case with 12 slots for 600 uranium ore in total. Closed it keeps 99 % of the radiation in: 600 uranium ore on your body would give 2.4 mSv/h at the chest, in the case only 0.024. Carry it in the other hand, the belt or the backpack while mining and there is nothing to do – freshly mined uranium ore goes into the case by itself, even with the lid closed. Six LEDs show how full it is.
Nuclear cells come in three sizes: S with 12 MJ for tools, L with 50 MJ for suits and XL with 250 MJ for station devices like the area power control, rovers or robots. They fit any battery slot, come full from the factory and cannot be recharged – in return they lose nothing in the cold and hardly discharge (half-life 200 hours of play). When empty they go to the reprocessing plant, which refills them from spent fuel rods, or back to the factory.
The nuclear factory makes the cells and four nuclear tools from uranium ore and ingots: a mining drill that is faster than the heavy drill and uses less power, an arc welder with 1.5 instead of 2 kW, an angle grinder and a hand drill – all 1.5 times as fast, with a nuclear cell in the core shaft. With cell S you weld for over an hour, with L four and a half hours. While working the factory draws 8 kW, so it belongs on a heavy cable.
