Overview
Pressure Regulator (StructurePressureRegulator) in Stationeers: device, hash 209854039, 100 W. With build steps, 11 IC10 logic values and connection diagram.
The pressure regulator sits between two pipe networks and fills the network at its output up to the set pressure. Once that is reached it closes; when the pressure there drops, it lets gas follow from the input again. That makes it the classic pressure reducer: behind a tank at many thousand kPa it supplies a network at a steady pressure, for example the supply air for vents.
Setting is the target pressure at the output in kPa, from 0 to 60,795 kPa – the upper limit of a gas pipe, and exactly the value Maximum reports. It ships at 50 kPa. On the device you change it in steps of 100 kPa, holding the key for small increments in steps of 1 kPa; with a switched-on labeller in your hand you type the value in directly. Add On and Lock. Power and data share one port; base draw is 100 W.
One limit is often overlooked: the regulator only fills up to the target – per tick at most as much as fits into the output network between the actual and the target pressure. With a single pipe piece (10 L), 120 kPa target, an empty pipe and 20 °C that is n = 120 · 10 / (8.3144 · 293) ≈ 0.49 mol per tick. With many consumers behind it, that is not enough. More pipe or an in-line tank at the output acts as a buffer: with 110 litres it would already be 5.4 mol.
A second quirk is in the game code: the regulator does not check whether the input has more pressure. If the output is below the target, it keeps pushing even from a weaker network – per tick the amount of 101.325 kPa in 10 litres, about 0.42 mol at 20 °C. If the input has more pressure, it may be correspondingly more. So it acts like a small pump with a cut-off pressure.
The Kit (Pressure Regulator) builds four devices: this regulator, the Back Pressure Regulator, the pressurant valve and the Purge Valve. Placing takes one step; you remove it with the hand drill. How regulators, pumps and valves work together is covered in Pumps, valves and pressure regulators: which part for what.
