What you learn today
- kPa and standard pressure
- The Armstrong limit
- Detect under- and overpressure
In Stationeers pressure is the value that kills fastest: too little and you suffocate or your heater gives up; too much and the glass door blows up in your face. Time to know the important numbers.
kPa and standard pressure
The game measures pressure in kilopascal. Standard pressure on Earth is 101.325 kPa – a well-tuned room sits roughly there. Pressure depends on two things: how much gas is in the room and how warm it is. If you heat a closed room, the pressure rises with it.
The important limits
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 6.3 kPa | Armstrong limit. Below it wall heater and wall cooler do not work. |
| approx. 76–80 kPa | below this normal air with 21 % oxygen is no longer enough for full breathing (next lesson) |
| 101.325 kPa | standard pressure |
| 200 kPa difference | an iron wall, a composite window, a glass door withstand this |
| 300 kPa difference | a composite wall or door withstands this |
| 607.95 kPa | from here breathing gets strenuous |
Walls count the difference
A wall does not care about the pressure in the room but about the difference between both sides. On the Moon with vacuum outside, 150 kPa inside means a 150 kPa difference. From about 80 % of its limit a wall counts as stressed. For rooms with glass or iron walls 150 kPa inside against vacuum is therefore a sensible upper limit.
sub diff inside outside # that is what the wall feels
sgt over diff 150 # 1 = too much for glass
slt under inside 80 # 1 = too thin to breathe
Detecting under- and overpressure
- Underpressure you measure from the inside pressure alone: below 80 kPa it gets tight for people without a helmet.
- Overpressure you measure as the difference inside − outside, because that is what walls and doors react to.
- If one of the sensors is missing, the difference is NaN. Then both are unclear, and unclear means: warn.
A room with a glass door that you pump up to 250 kPa might still hold on Mars – on the Moon it will not. The outside pressure belongs in every overpressure calculation.
Show the difference on a display. A number like “+100” tells you at the airlock right away whether you can open the door safely.
Exercise
Task
A pressure warner for a module with a glass door. On the network: gas sensors “Innen” and “Aussen”, LED display “Druckdifferenz”, flashing lights “Unterdruck” and “Ueberdruck”.
- The display shows inside − outside.
- “Unterdruck” on when inside is below 80 kPa.
- “Ueberdruck” on when the difference is above 150 kPa.
- If a sensor is missing, both warning lights go on.
Hints
Hint 1
Both pressures with lbn, difference with sub.
Hint 2
Underpressure from the inside pressure, overpressure from the difference.
Hint 3
snan missing diff catches both sensors at once – NaN infects the difference.
