Overview
Arc Furnace (StructureArcFurnace) in Stationeers: device, hash -247344692, 5 W. With build steps, 15 IC10 logic values and connection diagram.
The arc furnace is the simplest way from ore to ingot. It melts with electricity: no fuel, no pressure, no window of temperature and pressure. Every ingot costs a fixed time and energy – iron 1 s and 200 J, copper 3 s and 500 J, gold 6 s and 2,000 J.
It knows eight recipes: the seven basic metals iron, copper, gold, silver, lead, nickel and silicon, plus charcoal from biomass. It cannot do alloys. The import slot takes anything that fits an ore slot, the export slot only ingots. You start it with Activate, i.e. the button or a chip. It then melts the whole stack in the import slot piece by piece and sets Activate back to 0 afterwards – for the next stack you have to start it again.
Important for where you put it: it has no gas output. The gas an ore releases while melting ends up in the air around the furnace – 0.5 mol of carbon dioxide and 2 mol of pollutant per piece of iron ore. On top of that it gives off twenty times the recipe energy per piece as heat with a spark into the room, 4,000 J for iron. Flammable gas has no business near it. Ice does not become ingots here: it melts piece by piece and its gas also goes into the room. Dirty Ore vanishes in the furnace without any yield – it belongs in the centrifuge.
Connections: chute input and output, data and a power port of its own. The base draw is 5 W, plus the energy per ingot. If the grid cannot cover the next piece, it switches itself off. The autolathe prints the kit Kit (Arc Furnace) from iron 20 and copper 5. Placing it is a single step; you take it down with the hand drill.
A good plan for the start: basic metals in the arc furnace, alloys in the Furnace. Iron ingots from the arc furnace even make steel easier in the gas furnace, because ingots bring no gas along. Everything else is in The arc furnace: ore to ingots with electricity.
