Overview
Arc Welder (ItemArcWelder) in Stationeers: tool, hash 1385062886. With recipe and 4 IC10 logic values.
The game data list the Arc Welder as a substitute for the Welding Torch. Wherever a build stage asks for the welding torch, it may be used – that is 193 build stages in 167 structures. Instead of a gas canister, a battery cell goes into slot 0.
The power hunger is the catch. According to the game code, the UsedPowerPassive value of 2000 is joules per tick (0.5 s). It is drawn while you hold the mouse button and Activate is 1 – that equals 4000 W. Every finished build stage adds a flat 1000 J. When idle it draws nothing; it has no switch.
| Cell | Continuous welding per charge |
|---|---|
| Battery Cell (Small) (36,000 J) | 9 s |
| Battery Cell (Large) (288,000 J) | 72 s |
| Battery Cell (Nuclear) (2,304,000 J) | 576 s, just under 10 minutes |
The sum is 36,000 J / 2000 J = 18 ticks of 0.5 s. For comparison: the Handheld Tablet draws 10 J per tick. With the small cell you hardly get past a few build stages. Plan for a large cell or go straight for the nuclear one, and recharge after every bigger building session.
The recipe only needs tier 1 of the Tool Manufactory, but steel, electrum, invar and solder. So you need a furnace that can make alloys – see Furnaces and alloys.
The swap pays off once refilling gas canisters gets tedious. Through logic it reports Power and knows Activate. Also listed as substitutes for the welding torch are the Mk II Arc Welder (tier 2) and the emergency arc welder. More on all tools in Tools at a glance: which one you need for what.
