Steel is the alloy you need most often. According to the recipe data it appears in almost 200 recipes, plus Steel Sheets, which are used up in 160 structures. One ingot counts as 1 unit of steel and makes two steel sheets in the autolathe (0.5 steel per sheet). Ingots stack up to 500.
The recipe in the furnace or advanced furnace:
- 75 % iron and 25 % carbon from Charcoal – or 25 % hydrocarbon from Ore (Coal),
- from 900 K and from 1,000 kPa, both open upwards.
So for 4 ingots you need 3 iron and 1 coal. The arc furnace cannot make steel.
A tip from the data: use Ingot (Iron) instead of iron ore. The ingot holds the same iron but no gas – with 12 iron and 4 charcoal that is 24 instead of 54 mol of exhaust.
Steel itself is an ingredient of the super alloys astroloy (50 %) and inconel (25 %). In the recycler a steel ingot falls apart into 0.75 iron and 0.25 carbon again. The full guide is in Making steel: step by step in the furnace.
