Day 187 of 365 · Pro · Month 7: Power and energy

Large solar fields

One instruction for a hundred panels: sb turns the whole field, names separate groups with their own alignment, and Minimum, Sum and Count show whether the field really works.

Lesson 18 min Week 27

What you learn today

  • sb for all panels
  • Groups by name
  • Check alignment

Tracking ten panels is easy, a hundred too – as long as you do not address each one separately. A large solar field needs exactly two write instructions.

sb for all panels

sb writes to all devices of a type on the data network, without any name:

sb PANEL Horizontal h
sb PANEL Vertical v

That is the fastest way when all panels are built with the same orientation. Dual panels (StructureSolarPanelDual) or reinforced panels have a different prefab hash – they need their own sb.

Groups by name

If panels are built differently, say on a slope or on a wall, they need an offset of their own. Then each group gets a name and its own sbn:

sbn PANEL HASH("Dach") Vertical v
add tmp v SLOPE # slope group 20 degrees different
sbn PANEL HASH("Hang") Vertical tmp

Make sure no panel ends up in two groups and no sb overwrites the groups afterwards.

Checking the alignment

Three batch reads tell you everything about the field:

ReadBatch modeShows
RatioMinimumthe worst aligned panel
ChargeSumthe output of the whole field – Sum is right here
RatioCounthow many panels are on the network

A panel with a small Ratio while the others are fine is shaded, damaged or built wrong. If Count drops, one was taken down or a cable is gone.

Warning

At night all panels have Ratio 0. A “badly aligned” warning may therefore only trigger in daylight – otherwise the field flashes every night.

Tip

Count always counts all devices of the type, even with lbn – the name is ignored. It is no good for counting a group.

Exercise

Task

All panels on the network are built the same way and follow the sensor “Sonne” (conversion as yesterday, without parking).

  • Track with sb for all panels; write nothing without a sensor
  • Display “Schwaechstes”: smallest Ratio in percent
  • Display “Leistung”: sum of Charge, display “Panels”: count
  • Flashing light “Ausrichtung” on when a panel is below 50 % in daylight or the sensor is missing

Hints

Hint 1

Without a sensor jump over the tracking: bnan h check and the label check: before the field check.

Hint 2

sb PANEL Horizontal h and sb PANEL Vertical v after the conversion.

Hint 3

Field: lb … Ratio Minimum, lb … Charge Sum, lb … Ratio Count. Warning only with light.

Quiz

4 questions. You pass from 60 % – the server does the grading.

Complete the day
