The Crowbar needs no battery. As a build tool it only appears in six structures, and all of them are doors: the Airlock, the wide airlock, the Blast Door, the Composite Door, the Glass Door and the door for the robot arm. On the airlock it fits two plastic sheets in the last stage.
You need it more often for deconstruction. In 111 structures it removes at least one build stage, in 40 of them the first one, which gives the kit back.
The game also knows a function of its own for it: the Crowbar has a DoorForceOpenDuration value – it can force doors open. That helps when a door will not open normally. But think about what is behind it: a pried-open airlock door between a room and vacuum lets the air out, and on the Moon only your suit is left holding.
The Mk II Crowbar (tier 2) is listed as a substitute and has the same door function. The simple Crowbar is made in the Tool Manufactory from iron. More on all tools is in Tools at a glance: which one you need for what.
