Overview
Ice Crusher (StructureIceCrusher) in Stationeers: device, hash 443849486, 10 W. With build steps, 82 IC10 logic values and connection diagram.
The ice crusher is the easiest way to turn ice into gas. You put ice into the import slot or let it run in by chute. It only accepts ice; anything else it reports as an error. The ice melts into a 200 litre chamber, and from there the contents go into two pipes: gas to the gas output, liquid to the liquid output.
Setting is the target temperature in kelvin, 288.15 K (15 °C) from the factory. As long as the contents are colder, the crusher heats with an extra 1,000 W and melts no new ice. It only outputs once the contents are warmer than Setting minus 1 K. It cannot cool. With the buttons on the device you set 120 to 320 K, in steps of ten or of one with the fine-step key; through IC10 Setting goes from 1 to 1,000.
Which substance ends up at which output depends on its state at that temperature. From the factory this gives per piece:
| Ice | Gas | Liquid |
|---|---|---|
| Ice (Water) | 5 mol nitrogen | 20 mol water |
| Ice (Oxite) | 22.5 mol oxygen, 2.5 mol nitrogen | – |
| Ice (Volatiles) | 20 mol methane, 2 mol hydrogen | – |
| Ice (Nitrice) | 22.5 mol nitrogen, 2.5 mol nitrous oxide | – |
If a chip sets a high temperature, the water can evaporate and then goes to the gas output as well. Where the limit lies also depends on the pressure – the phase diagram of Water shows it.
For both outputs IC10 reads pressure, temperature and gas ratios, for example PressureOutput, and Pressure and Temperature for the chamber. The crusher keeps pushing until 121,590 kPa are reached inside – more than a gas pipe can take at 60,795 kPa. So switch it off with On before the tank behind it is full.
It stands on a single grid cell, three cells tall, and needs a frame underneath. The pipe bender prints the kit Kit (Ice Crusher) (iron 3, gold 1, copper 1). It is built with one iron sheet and two cable coils. According to the game data it is flammable – on hot worlds such as Venus, better put it in a cooled room.
