Overview
Wire Cutters (ItemWireCutters) in Stationeers: tool, hash 1535854074. With recipe.
The Wire Cutters are the tool for cables. In the game's build steps they are never a build tool, but they remove a build stage in 92 structures. Most of those are cable pieces: straight cables such as the Cable (Straight), corners, junctions and crossings, for normal and heavy cable.
That includes the burnt variants. When a cable is overloaded, it burns out – the game has dedicated prefabs with "Burnt" in their name for that. You remove them with the wire cutters and lay new cable. Why cables burn out and how to avoid it is explained in Power grid basics.
Outside of cables, a handful of devices need them for single stages, for example the Advanced Furnace, the Autolathe, the small and medium batteries, the Ice Crusher and the Deep Miner.
76 of the 92 stages have a consumption value of 0 for the wire cutters; they have no battery slot anyway. They fit any tool slot and are made in the Tool Manufactory from iron. The Mk II Wire Cutters (tier 2) are listed as a substitute. More in Tools at a glance: which one you need for what.
