Project: fuel station

A fuel station for gas canisters: mix hydrogen and oxygen correctly for the temperatures, fill up to the target pressure, limit overpressure and report faults by rank.

Project 45 min Week 34

What you learn today

  • Mix and fill fuel
  • Limit pressure
  • Report faults

The rover needs fuel, so does the jetpack. The fuel station mixes it, fills it into canisters and makes sure on the way that nothing burns and nothing bursts.

The gas tank storage holds a gas canister in slot 0 and fills it via its pipe connection. Pressure shows the pressure in the canister.

The rules

  • Mixing: Setting = 100 · 2 · T1 / (2 · T1 + T2), the mixer runs while both temperatures are there.
  • Filling: the pump runs when a canister is inserted, its pressure is below 8,000 kPa and no fault is pending. A normal gas canister withstands 10,132.5 kPa, 8,000 leaves room for heat.
  • Faults from unimportant to important: 1 wrong mixture, 2 overpressure above 9,500 kPa, 3 fire, 4 reading missing.
  • Alarm: on fault 3 the klaxon plays Sound.FireFireFire.

Milestones

  1. Set the mixer correctly for the temperatures
  2. Fill up to 8,000 kPa, only with a canister
  3. Overpressure: fault 2, pump off
  4. Report wrong mixture and fire, alarm on fire
  5. Missing sensor: fault 4, pump off
Warning

A full canister is not reported as a fault – it is the goal. The pump simply stops. Only if the pressure still rises above 9,500 kPa, for example because the canister stands in the sun, is it a fault.

Tip

The fire alarm here does not latch, because the fault number is built anew every tick. For a real station you combine it with the latching alarm from the fire protection lesson.

Project task

Task

Build the fuel station following the rules. defines and reading are there, mixer, faults, filling and alarm are missing.

Milestones

  1. Milestone 1: set the mixer
  2. Milestone 2: fill until full
  3. Milestone 3: overpressure
  4. Milestone 4: mixture and fire
  5. Milestone 5: sensor missing

Hints

Hint 1

Mixer as in the mixing lesson, On only with both temperatures.

Hint 2

Faults: mixture, overpressure, fire, then add all readings and snan – each with select code … code.

Hint 3

Pump: canister inserted and pressure below FULL and fault 0.

Quiz

2 questions. You pass from 60 % – the server does the grading.
