Overview
Ore (Coal) (ItemCoalOre) in Stationeers: ore, hash 1724793494, stack 50. With recipe.
Coal is common (weight 60); one extraction yields 2 to 4 pieces. Every piece contains 1 unit of hydrocarbon.
Coal has three jobs:
- Steel: Ingot (Steel) forms from 75 % iron and 25 % hydrocarbon – or carbon from charcoal. The ratio is 3 iron to 1 coal.
- Solid fuel: in the gas furnace it becomes Solid Fuel (Hydrocarbon), from 950 K and 1,000 kPa in pure methane.
- Fuel: coal fits into the ore slot of the Generator (Solid Fuel).
The catch is the gas: every piece releases 10 mol of Carbon Dioxide and 3 mol of Pollutant when melting. 50 pieces bring 650 mol into the furnace – about 1,584 kPa in the 1,000 litre chamber even at 20 °C. Without a gas outlet the pressure runs away.
Careful with storage: according to the game data the flashpoint is 323.15 K (50 °C) and autoignition 373.15 K (100 °C) – far lower than for metal ores. How to make steel step by step is in Making steel: step by step in the furnace.
