What you learn today
- Repeat chip networks
- Connect rockets and big projects
- Spot gaps
The third recap brings the big lines together: chips that talk to each other, rockets that are far away, and big projects that need both.
Chip networks
| Building block | Rule |
|---|---|
| shared memory | every address has exactly one writer |
| protocol | identifier, value, acknowledgement, version |
| watchdog | a heartbeat that has to keep moving |
| leader and follower chips | tasks by responsibility, not by lines |
Rockets
The avionics sums up the rocket in numbers. Fuel is Mass − DryMass, in space Altitude is −1, AutoLand can only be written, and a chip sets the destination exactly once. The chip plans the way back itself, no device names the demand.
Big projects
Requirements, device list, naming scheme, interfaces, tests, step-by-step rollout. This weeks' base automation is the pattern for everything you build from now on.
Everything in one: the on-board computer
Mission control from day 342 needed a partner in the rocket. It writes four values down – heartbeat, fuel, checklist – and accepts exactly one command: return. All rules of the network apply: it only writes its own memories, it executes a command only once, and it keeps working when the avionics fails – because that is exactly when mission control must see that it is alive.
lbn tmp SPEICHER HASH("Boden_Befehl") Setting Average
seq tmp tmp 1 # only exactly 1 is a command
beqz tmp loop
bnez sent loop # already executed
Finding gaps
Can you name an example from the game for every line of the table? Do you know why the on-board computer keeps writing its heartbeat without avionics? If so, you are ready for the master project. If not, days 288 to 293 and 342 are the right ones.
A “return” command is only executed on exactly 1. A 2, a NaN or a 0.999 from a calculation is no command – better do nothing once than redirect a rocket on a random value.
Exercise
Task
Build the on-board computer: heartbeat “Rak_Puls” counts up every pass. “Rak_Sprit” shows the fuel of the avionics “Avionik” in percent of the first valid value, -1 without avionics. “Rak_Check” is the check word (bit 0 at least 6000 kg, bit 1 thrust-to-weight at least 1.3, bit 2 lever “Crew”). If “Boden_Befehl” holds a 1, the chip sets DestinationCode once to the value from “Heimat”.
Hints
Hint 1
Heartbeat first – it also runs without avionics.
Hint 2
Starting supply as on day 331: seqz tmp start, and tmp tmp ok, select start tmp fuel start.
Hint 3
Command: seq tmp command 1, then skip twice – on 0 and when already sent.
Quiz
3 questions. You pass from 60 % – the server does the grading.
Complete the day
- Passed the simulator exercise
- Passed the quiz with at least 60 %
