Overview

Ore (Iron) (ItemIronOre) in Stationeers: ore, hash 1758427767, stack 50. With recipe.

Iron ore is the ore you will find most often: in the underground profile of every world it has the highest weight (90), and one extraction yields 3 to 5 pieces. The game data says 3 to 6, but the upper limit itself never occurs; on the Easy difficulty you get twice as much, on Creative five times. It is also the fastest to mine. Every piece contains exactly 1 unit of iron.

There are two ways to an ingot. The Arc Furnace needs 1 s and 200 J per ingot, without any gas. In the Furnace iron melts from 800 K and 100 kPa. There every piece of ore releases 0.5 mol of Carbon Dioxide and 2 mol of Pollutant – a full stack of 50 brings 125 mol of gas into the furnace.

Iron is used in more recipes than any other substance, and on top of that in steel, solder and invar. For steel a detour pays off: turn the ore into Ingot (Iron) in the arc furnace first. The ingot holds the same iron but no gas, and the pressure in the gas furnace stays easier to control.

How to find and mine ore is explained in Mining: finding and extracting ore, the way to steel in Making steel: step by step in the furnace.
