Astroloy is the super alloy for heavy equipment. According to the recipe data it appears in just over 20 recipes – among them the hardsuit, the hardsuit jetpack, the nuclear battery cell, the robotic arm and, with 100 ingots, the large satellite dish. One ingot counts as 1 unit of astroloy.
The recipe only exists in the Advanced Furnace:
- 50 % steel, 25 % copper, 25 % cobalt,
- from 1,000 K, open upwards,
- 30,000 to 40,000 kPa.
Add steel as Ingot (Steel) and cobalt as Ore (Cobalt), since there is no cobalt ingot. One ingot of astroloy uses 4 units of mix, i.e. 2 steel, 1 copper and 1 cobalt ore – ten times that for 10 ingots.
For the middle of the pressure window (35,000 kPa) at 1,100 K you need about 3,830 mol of gas in the 1,000 litre furnace. The window is 10,000 kPa wide, which makes it comparatively comfortable.
The autolathe also turns astroloy into an astroloy sheet (astroloy 1, steel 2). In the recycler an ingot only falls apart into 0.5 steel, 0.25 copper and 0.25 cobalt – a quarter of what it cost. More about all five super alloys in Super alloys in the advanced furnace.
