Filter Recycling adds two machines for used gas filters. The Filter Washer washes filters back to 100 % with water from a pipe and returns the used water as polluted water. The Filter Shredder shreds filters into a stock and presses a new one from four of the same kind. Both machines take all 16 gas types in all 4 sizes – 64 filters in total. Both have custom models; labels, display, buttons and device names appear in German or English, depending on the game language.
Overview
| Machine | Size | Connections | Job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filter Washer | 1 × 0.5 m, 1.24 m tall (2 × 1 × 3 cells) | water left, polluted water right (liquid pipe), power + data at the back | wash 4 filters back to 100 % |
| Filter Shredder | 1 × 0.5 m, 1.24 m tall (2 × 1 × 3 cells) | power + data at the back | 4 of the same kind = 1 new |
"Left" and "right" are seen from the front. Power and data come in through one cable at the socket on the back of the right-hand cell.
Supported filters
Every gas filter in the game, 16 gas types in 4 sizes each:
| Gas types | Sizes (prefab) |
|---|---|
| oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, pollutant, volatiles (methane), nitrous oxide, hydrogen, helium, ozone, water, polluted water, alcohol, hydrochloric acid, hydrazine, silanol, salt | standard (ItemGasFilterOxygen), medium (…M), heavy (…L), catalytic (…Infinite) |
The list is not hard-coded: at start the mod reads every gas filter prefab of the game with its gas and its lifetime. If a game update adds new filters, they are included automatically. There is exactly one kind per gas and size; internal variants of the game without a Stationpedia entry never become kinds of their own.
| Size | Water = polluted water | Wash time | Washing power | Shredding | Filters per new one | Lasts in use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| standard | 2 L | 20 s | 400 W | 8 s | 4 | about 2 h |
| medium | 3 L | 30 s | 500 W | 10 s | 4 | about 10 h |
| heavy | 5 L | 45 s | 700 W | 12 s | 4 | about 40 h |
| catalytic | 8 L | 60 s | 900 W | 16 s | 4 | about 160 h |
Water and time are for a fully used filter; every value can be changed (see Settings). "Lasts in use" is the pure filtering time in which a device actually separates gas.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation

Building and recipe
| Kit | Machine | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Kit (Filter Washer) | Hydraulic Pipe Bender, tier 1 | 15 iron, 5 steel, 20 copper, 5 gold, 2 silicon |
| Kit (Filter Shredder) | Autolathe, tier 1 | 20 iron, 10 steel, 10 copper, 3 gold |
Both machines stand on the floor and rotate only around the vertical axis. They take two cells side by side and three on top of each other. The display sits at 1.1 m – matching the player character's eye height of about 1 m, readable without bending down.
Filter Washer
On top there is a stainless trough with four wash bays. Every gas filter fits – all 16 gas types in all 4 sizes. The washer washes one filter after the other. The water flows evenly from the inlet over the wash time; the same amount of polluted water – same litres, same temperature – goes into the outlet pipe. Afterwards the filter is at 100 %. A filter that is less dirty needs proportionally less water and time – a filter at 40 % needs 60 % of the values, but never less than 25 %. Idle the washer uses 10 W.
Faults
The wash cycle pauses and the red LED blinks (IC10 Error = 1) when
- there is not enough water at the inlet,
- the polluted water pipe is 90 % full of liquid or above 3000 kPa,
- a pipe is missing,
- there is no power.
Once the cause is fixed, the cycle continues. If you take a filter out during washing, the cycle is cancelled; the water already used is gone.
Catalytic filters
The game code shows that catalytic filters wear out too – they just last 80 times longer than standard filters. A filter loses 1 % after 144 filtering ticks (standard), 720 (medium), 2880 (heavy) or 11,520 (catalytic). That is about 2, 10, 40 and 160 hours of pure filtering. The washer treats catalytic filters like all others, with the longest wash cycle.
Filter Shredder
On top there are four input channels: lay the filters in, bottom towards the cutting rollers. Every filter is shredded and counted as one unit of its kind – kind means the same gas and the same size. As soon as four units of the same kind are in stock (the amount can be set per size), the shredder presses a new filter of that kind with 100 % and puts it into the output tray at the front right.
| Step | Time | Power |
|---|---|---|
| Shredding standard / medium / heavy / catalytic | 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 s | 1500 W |
| Pressing a new filter | 20 s | 1500 W |
| Idle | – | 10 W |
- There is no conversion between gases or sizes. What you put in comes back out as a new filter. Catalytic filters are only sold by traders – if they could be converted, the shredder would be a copier.
- In AUTO mode the shredder starts 3 seconds after a filter is inserted – time to take a wrong one back out.
- If a filter is still in the output tray, nothing is pressed; the shredder keeps shredding until the tray is free.
- The stock is kept in the save.

Display
Three pages with four large lines each. Washer: overview (state, filters, progress, time and water left), water (inlet, temperature, pressure, outlet), statistics. Shredder: overview (state, kind and stock, progress), stock (the three largest kinds), statistics. The key values are also in the tooltip; above every bay the tooltip shows the filter and what washing it costs.

The wash limit sets from which state a filter counts as clean. With 100 everything below 100 % is washed, with 50 only filters below 50 %. The slots can be read with ls (Occupied, OccupantHash, Quantity, FilterType): washer 0–3, shredder 0–3 input and 4 output.

Writable addresses are marked with (W). clr resets the statistics; on the shredder the stock stays.
Example: wash only with enough water
The washer is named "Waschanlage" (labeller), a small LED display "Waschfortschritt", a flashing light "Waschstoerung". The chip sets the washer to MANUAL and only starts when filters are inside, at least 300 mol of water (5.4 L) are at the inlet and the polluted water pipe is below 2000 kPa. The display shows the progress in percent, the flashing light reports faults.

define values to adjust: MINMOL (amount of water from which washing starts) and MAXKPA. If the washer is gone or not found, the chip reads NaN and waits.
Example: stock of one kind in the shredder
The shredder is named "Schredder", the display "O2-Vorrat". The chip gets the shredder's ReferenceId, asks for the stock of standard oxygen filters with put/get and shows it. For another kind, change the prefab name in HASH, e.g. ItemGasFilterNitrogenL for heavy nitrogen filters.

Multiplayer
New devices: the server and all players need the mod, and it also runs on dedicated servers. Everything is calculated on the server only. Display, LEDs, buttons and sounds are synchronised to all players; stock, statistics and running wash cycles are saved with the game. See Multiplayer.
Tips
- Water loop: feed the polluted water into a water purifier with charcoal and its outlet back to the water inlet – hardly any water is lost.
- Suit filters: take them out of the helmet, put them into a wash bay, put them back after the cycle.
- Without a water pipe, or for filters you no longer need: into the shredder – four of the same kind make a new one.
