Air Conditioning (Klimatechnik) gives you two ways to cool rooms and gas. The split air conditioner consists of an indoor unit on the wall and an outdoor unit outside, connected by a refrigerant pipe. The air conditioners 3, 6 and 12 kW work like the game's Air Conditioner with input, output and waste, only stronger and with a display. Since 1.2.0 heating and ventilation are part of it too: wall heater with blower, flow wind wheel and ventilation ducts, see Heating & ventilation. All devices have their own 3D models, displays with page numbers, LEDs, spinning fans and full IC10 control. Model labels, displays, buttons and device names appear in German or English, depending on the game language.
For comparison: the game's Air Conditioner moves up to 14 kW per tick with about 0.4 kW of power. The outdoor unit of the split system manages up to 220 kW of cooling for about 5.5 kW of power, the air conditioners up to 500 kW. If you only want to cool a single pipe, use the Pipe Cooler.

Which device for what? The split air conditioner cools a room directly and carries the heat outside through the refrigerant pipe. The three-pipe air conditioners treat gas in pipes: gas from the input is brought to the target temperature and passed on to the output, the heat goes into the waste pipe.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation
- Mod in the active mod pack
- Split air conditioner: outside atmosphere of at least 6.3 kPa at the outdoor unit and at least 6.3 kPa of air in the room. In vacuum the indoor and outdoor units don't work.
- Wall heater: at least 6.3 kPa of room air.
Building and recipes
All kits come from the Hydraulic Pipe Bender, tier 1:
| Kit | Cost |
|---|---|
| Kit (Air Conditioner Indoor Unit) | 5 iron, 2 gold, 8 copper |
| Kit (Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit) | 10 iron, 5 gold, 20 copper, 5 steel |
| Kit (Air Conditioner 3 kW) | 10 iron, 5 gold, 20 copper, 3 steel |
| Kit (Air Conditioner 6 kW) | 15 iron, 8 gold, 30 copper, 6 steel |
| Kit (Air Conditioner 12 kW) | 25 iron, 12 gold, 50 copper, 10 steel |
| Kit (Wall Heater with Blower) | 6 iron, 2 gold, 8 copper, 2 steel |
| Kit (Flow Wind Wheel) | 4 iron, 1 gold, 4 copper |
| Kit (Ventilation Duct) | 1 iron |
| Kit (Duct Grille) | 3 iron |
| Kit (Duct Fan) | 5 iron, 1 gold, 5 copper |
The costs are in GameData/klima.xml in the mod folder. The indoor unit is placed on the wall with its kit. The outdoor unit and the air conditioners are built like the game's Air Conditioner: place the kit, then a pipe kit, then screwdriver and cable. The Kit (Flow Wind Wheel) builds both forms, free-spinning or with generator (mouse wheel). The Kit (Ventilation Duct) builds all eight duct shapes and stacks.
Controls on all devices
- The displays are made for reading while standing: at most four lines per page, page 1 shows the most important values in large text. The page number is on the right, for example 2/4.
- The PAGE < / > buttons flip through the pages. SET - / + changes the temperature in steps of 0.5 °C, MODE switches between COOL and AUTO.
- The floor-standing devices carry display and buttons on a sloped desk, so you look down onto them.
- When you look at a device, the tooltip shows the key values.
Split air conditioner
How it fits together
The indoor unit takes heat out of the room air and passes it to the refrigerant in the pipe. The outdoor unit takes it back out outside and releases it to the outside air. The refrigerant pipe is an ordinary gas pipe network.
Setup
- Place the indoor unit on the wall, three cells wide. Ceiling or floor work too. The gas pipe (refrigerant) connects at the bottom centre, one cable for power and data at the top. Pipe and cable lie on the wall plane as usual, and the pipe runs flush into the socket on the unit (since 1.1.1).
- Put the outdoor unit outside on the ground or on a frame (2 × 1 cells). The refrigerant pipe goes to the right end (light blue ring), power and data at the back.
- Connect both with one gas pipe network.
- Fill the pipe with a gas. Recommended: nitrogen at 500 to 2000 kPa. Any other gas works too.
More gas and more pipe buffer better. Use insulated pipe outside, otherwise the sun heats the line.
Several indoor units may share one pipe network. They automatically work together with the outdoor unit.
Indoor unit
- A fan exchanges heat between the room air in front of the unit and the refrigerant: up to 250 kW at fan speed 3, speed 1 one third, speed 2 two thirds. At most 20000 W per Kelvin of difference between room and refrigerant, never beyond equalisation.
- Cooling only works if the refrigerant is colder than the room. Heating only if it is warmer.
- Example: room 21 °C, refrigerant 5 °C. 16 K × 20000 W would give 320 kW, fan speed 3 caps it at 250 kW. If the refrigerant is only 5 K colder than the room, 100 kW remain. Close to the target the unit throttles down smoothly so the room does not get too cold.
- Thermostat on the room temperature: default 21 °C, adjustable from -10 to 50 °C. It cools from target + 0.3 K and then regulates smoothly onto the target without flapping. The room temperature is that of the room the unit hangs in. If no room is detected, it uses the air directly in front of the unit.
- Mode COOL (default) or AUTO. AUTO also heats as soon as the room is 0.3 K below the target. The unit then takes heat from the refrigerant, and the outdoor unit switches to heating.
- Fan speed 1 to 3 with the FAN button, default 3. Three bars next to the button show the speed.
- Power: 10 W standby, fan up to 150 W (speed 1: 50 W, speed 2: 100 W). The fan only runs while cooling or heating. Both warm the room.
- Only works if the room has air (from 6.3 kPa).
- On the unit: a large display with the buttons next to it, LEDs and a light strip (blue while cooling, orange while heating). The air flap opens while running.

Outdoor unit
- Compressor, finned condenser and a large fan that turns while running. The display sits on the 45° desk at the front, buttons, main switch and LEDs on the top.
- Keeps the refrigerant at its setpoint: default 5 °C, adjustable from -50 to 80 °C. The heat goes to the outside air, up to 220 kW. The power used also becomes heat in the air.
- Lift factor = 1 − (outside air + 10 K − refrigerant) / 120 K, at least 10%. The further the heat has to go uphill, the less the unit manages.
- Power = heat / (40 × lift factor), at most 5.5 kW. So at full load it always draws about 5.5 kW. The lift factor decides how much heat it moves for that.
- Only runs with an outside atmosphere of at least 6.3 kPa. In vacuum NO AIR lights up.
| Outside air (refrigerant at 5 °C) | Lift factor | Cooling at most |
|---|---|---|
| 0 °C | 96% | 211 kW |
| 20 °C | 79% | 174 kW |
| 40 °C | 63% | 138 kW |
| 60 °C | 46% | 101 kW |
| 80 °C | 29% (OVERLOAD) | 64 kW |
| 103 °C and above | 10% | 22 kW |
From about 73 °C outside air, OVERLOAD lights up. On hot planets a lot less power remains.
AUTO mode is the default on the outdoor unit. If all indoor units on the network only want heat, it pumps heat from the outside air into the refrigerant and holds it at the heating setpoint (default 40 °C). Cooling has priority: if even one indoor unit wants to cool, the outdoor unit cools. Without demand it stays in its last mode. In COOL mode it never heats. The SET - and + buttons only change the cooling setpoint; the heating setpoint is set via IC10 or in the settings.

Air conditioners 3, 6 and 12 kW
Like the game's Air Conditioner with input, output and waste, but stronger and with a display. Each tick it takes a packet of gas from the input, brings it to the target temperature and passes it on to the output.
- Cooling: the heat from the gas plus the power go into the waste pipe.
- Heating (AUTO mode only, target above the input temperature): the heat comes from the waste pipe.
- If the gas is already at the target (±0.5 K), it passes through unchanged.
| Size | Footprint | Moves at most | Power at full load | Gas per tick |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kW | 2 × 1 cells, two high | 125 kW | 3 kW | 8000 L |
| 6 kW | 2 × 1 cells, three high like the game's Air Conditioner | 250 kW | 6 kW | 16000 L |
| 12 kW | 2 × 2 cells, three high, second fan on top | 500 kW | 12 kW | 32000 L |
The gas amount is measured at 1 atm. The game's Air Conditioner manages 100 L and up to 14 kW per tick with about 0.4 kW of power – 12 kW of power would buy about 30 of them (together up to about 420 kW). The 12 kW unit moves up to 500 kW. How much it really moves also depends on the gas amount: it cools the gas exactly to the target, not below. With 12 K between input and target, 32000 L are enough for a good 300 kW.
Connections
As on the game's Air Conditioner: input on the left (yellow ring) and output on the right (blue ring) at the ends, waste (orange) at the front, all at floor level and labelled. Power and data are at the back, on the 12 kW unit at the back of the second row of cells.
Efficiency
- Lift factor as on the outdoor unit: when cooling, what counts is how far the waste is above the input (waste + 10 K − input, only 10% at 120 K). The other way round when heating.
- Pressure factor as in the game: full from about 110 kPa at input and waste, less below that. Below about 61 kPa LOW PRESSURE lights up.
- Power = energy moved / COP. At a full lift factor the COP is maximum output / power, about 42 (as in the game, where the air conditioner moves up to 14 kW with 0.4 kW), and it drops with the lift factor.
Controls
Everything sits on the sloped desk at the top front: LEDs on the left, display in the middle, PAGE < / >, SET - / +, main switch and MODE on the right.
- Target temperature: default 20 °C, adjustable from -100 to 300 °C.
- MODE: AUTO (default, as in the game: target above the input means heating) or fixed COOL.

Heating & ventilation
Since 1.2.0 there are three more device families: the wall heater with blower, the flow wind wheel as a replacement for the game's removed turbine, and chute-sized ventilation ducts with duct grille and duct fan.
Wall heater with blower
- Goes on a wall or ceiling, three cells wide. One cable for power and data comes in at the top centre.
- Thermostat on the room temperature: default 21 °C, adjustable from -10 to 50 °C. It heats from target - 0.3 K and regulates gently onto the target.
- LEVEL 1–3 = 2, 4 or 6 kW. MODE HEAT or FAN (blower only, recirculation).
- The blower pushes the warm air visibly into the room: the fan wheel turns and the air in front of the unit is pushed. Half of the heat goes to the next air cell 2 m further in if there is open air.
- Overheat protection from 60 °C air at the unit. Unlike the game's wall heater it is no ignition source. It works from 6.3 kPa of room air.
- Power = heat output + blower + 10 W. Everything ends up as heat in the room.

Flow wind wheel
- The rotor turns faster the stronger the air flows where it is. The tail vane turns the head into the flow. Full speed from 2 m/s.
- What it measures: the game keeps a flow vector for every 2 m air cell. It comes from the pressure differences to the neighbouring cells and also drives loose items and gas particles. Outside, the planetary wind adds to it; in a storm, the storm.
- Wall heater, duct grille and duct fan push the air. In front of them the wheel turns.
- Free-spinning: needs no power, the data cable is only for IC10.
- With generator: up to 100 W, linear up to 2 m/s. The energy is taken from the air as heat.
- Mounted on a wall or ceiling, the arm is 0.36 m long.
Ventilation ducts
- Lay ducts like pipes (mouse wheel: straight, corner, T, cross, corner with outlet, T with outlet, 5 and 6 way). Merge them with the wrench in the other hand. Ducts pass through walls, each piece holds 100 L.
- Put a duct grille (air in and out) or a duct fan at the ends.
- Connect the fan to power, set MODE EXTRACT (room air into the duct) or SUPPLY, FLOW 0–100 %.
Ducts never connect to game pipes. Without a fan two rooms even out only slowly through a duct, a duct grille evens out 20 % per tick. With a fan, the air comes out of the grilles in the other room.
The fan moves up to 500 L per tick at 200 W, directly from its opening to the other openings of the network. The higher the back pressure, the less it moves, from 20 kPa nothing (FAULT blinks orange). Switched off, it works like a grille.

Multiplayer
New devices: the server and all players need the mod. The server does the calculations, the players receive the display values. See Multiplayer.
Known limitations
- The split air conditioner needs air: in the room and outside, at least 6.3 kPa. In vacuum, use the 3, 6 or 12 kW air conditioners instead; they release the heat into the waste pipe.
- On hot planets the outdoor unit loses a lot of power. From about 103 °C outside air, 10% remain.
- One outdoor unit pumps away at most 220 kW. If several indoor units together put more heat into the refrigerant, its temperature rises.
- Cooling has priority. If some indoor units on a network want to cool and others want to heat, the outdoor unit cools.
- The heating setpoint of the outdoor unit can't be set with the buttons, only via IC10 (address 13) or with
KaeltemittelHeizC. - Ventilation ducts form a network of their own and never connect to the game's gas pipes.
- The flow wind wheel shows the game's real air flow. In a closed room at equal pressure the air is still and so is the wheel.
Troubleshooting
| Display text / symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Indoor unit: NO REFRIGERANT | pipe empty, below the Armstrong limit or not connected | connect the gas pipe at the bottom centre and fill it, e.g. with nitrogen |
| Indoor unit: REFRIGERANT TOO WARM, COOL flashing | the refrigerant is not colder than the room | check the outdoor unit: power, outside air, setpoint |
| Indoor unit: REFRIGERANT TOO COLD, HEAT flashing | AUTO wants to heat, but the refrigerant is colder than the room | set the outdoor unit to AUTO; it heats once no indoor unit wants to cool any more |
| Indoor unit: ROOM HAS NO AIR | room below 6.3 kPa | fill the room with air |
| Room doesn't get cold enough | refrigerant too warm or low fan speed | fan speed 3, lower the refrigerant setpoint, more gas in the pipe |
| Outdoor unit: NO AIR | outside pressure below 6.3 kPa | put the outdoor unit where there is an atmosphere |
| Outdoor unit: OVERLOAD | outside air much warmer than the refrigerant, lift factor below 35% | normal on hot planets; a higher refrigerant setpoint reduces the lift |
| Refrigerant pipe outside gets warm | the sun heats the line | use insulated pipe |
| Air conditioner: INPUT EMPTY | no gas at the input | supply gas |
| Air conditioner: PIPE MISSING/EMPTY | a pipe is missing or the waste pipe is empty | connect all three pipes, fill the waste pipe |
| Air conditioner: LOW PRESSURE | input or waste below about 61 kPa | raise the pressure, full from about 110 kPa |
| Air conditioner doesn't heat | COOL mode | switch to AUTO |
| Wall heater: FAULT | room without air, no power or air at the unit above 60 °C | fill the room with air, check power, let the unit cool down |
| Flow wind wheel doesn't turn | no air flow, e.g. a closed room at equal pressure | place it in front of a blower, duct grille, an airlock or outside; klima luft shows the value |
| Duct fan: FAULT blinks orange | back pressure of 20 kPa or more | lower the pressure in the target room or add a duct grille as an outlet |
| Duct doesn't connect to a pipe | intended, ducts and game pipes stay separate | put a duct grille or duct fan at the duct end |
