The Deep Well is a well drilling rig that works automatically like the deep miner: it drills down to bedrock, then delivers polluted water – nothing else. Depending on the planet it comes as liquid into a pipe or as ice into a chute. The water still has to go through the water purifier: the well saves you collecting ice, not the automation. All model labels, the display, buttons and device names appear in German or English, depending on the game language.
Overview
| Planet | Ground temperature | Delivers |
|---|---|---|
| Venus | 464 °C | water |
| Vulcan | 414 °C | water |
| Mars | -23 °C | ice |
| Europa | -144 °C | ice |
| Moon, Mimas | no atmosphere, counts as frozen | ice |
The ground temperature is the mean of the world's day and night value. From 3 °C – the freezing point of polluted water in the game – the well delivers water, below that ice. With Modus you can force water or ice everywhere.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation

Building and recipe
| Kit | Machine | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Kit (Deep Well) | Autolathe, tier 1 | 30 steel, 20 iron, 15 copper, 5 constantan, 2 gold |
The well has the footprint of the deep miner (4 × 2 m) and a drilling mast 4.6 m high. It stands on terrain or on a frame platform and drills through the frame. It is easiest to build it on frames or flat terrain: if it sits deep in the ground, the connections end up inside the terrain and the display sits lower.
Setup
Seen from the front, the blue drilling mast with its power swivel stands on the right. Below it sits the wellhead, through which the drill string with filter pipe and drill bit goes into the ground. On the left is the pump house with feed pump, settling tank with sight glass and ice former, and in front of it the control cabinet with the control panel at eye level and a work light.
Connections
| Connection | Position | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Power | lower row, 0.5 m above the floor, far right | red ring |
| Data | lower row, next to power | green ring |
| Polluted water | lower row, left | olive ring, liquid pipe only |
| Chute | at the ice tray, 1 m above the floor | ICE / CHUTE sign |
On a frame you need a short piece of pipe and cable going up to the connection row.
How it works
- Drilling: the drill string turns at 200 rpm and disappears into the ground until it reaches bedrock. The display shows the progress.
- Delivering: after that the well delivers 0.5 mol/s at full speed.
- Water: it goes into the liquid pipe at 15 °C until the line is filled to the fill limit (default 80 %, adjustable with the - and + buttons) or 3000 kPa is reached. So no pipe bursts.
- Ice: every 50 mol makes one chunk of polluted water ice in the ice tray. With a chute it goes in batches of 5 chunks. Without a chute the tray collects up to 50 chunks, which you take out with an empty hand. Nothing melts in the tray.
- Waiting: if the line or the tray is full, the output is closed or no pipe is connected, the motor runs down. The well then needs only 10 W instead of 500 W.
0.5 mol/s means one ice chunk every 100 seconds – as often as the deep miner delivers ore – or about 32 L of water per hour. That is plenty of drinking water for several players.

Example: show the ice in the tray, warning light
The well is named "Brunnen", a small LED display "Eis" and a wall light "Eiswarnung". The display shows the chunks in the ice tray, the light switches on from 45 chunks – time to fetch the ice or connect a chute.
# Deep Well: show ice in the tray, light on from 45 chunks
define BRUNNEN -2057641468 # Deep Well
define ANZEIGE -815193061 # LED display (small)
define LAMPE -1860064656 # wall light
define WARNUNG 45 # chunks in the ice tray for the warning
alias eis r0
alias voll r1

Console commands
Console with F3. brunnen status and brunnen planet work everywhere, the other commands act on the nearest well and only on the host or server or in single player.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
brunnen status | all wells with state, output and fill level |
brunnen planet | ground temperature, water or ice and why |
brunnen bedrock | skip the drilling phase of the nearest well |
brunnen valve open | output open or closed |

brunnen limit 60 | fill limit of the line in % |
The German words work too: fels, ventil auf|zu, licht an|aus, grenze.

Multiplayer
New device: the server and all players need the mod. Only the server delivers; display, LEDs, speed and buttons are synchronised to everyone and saved with the game. See Multiplayer.
Tips
- Polluted water is not drinkable: lead the line into the water purifier, put ice into the ice crusher or furnace.
- On Venus and Vulcan the outside air heats up uninsulated pipes. Above 114 °C the water boils – use insulated pipes.
- The well is non-flammable, even on Venus.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Display: NO PIPE | no liquid pipe at the polluted water connection | liquid pipe to the olive ring; a gas pipe does not fit there |
| Display: PIPE FULL | line filled to the fill limit | take water off or raise the fill limit with + |
| Display: ICE TRAY FULL | 50 chunks in the tray, no chute | take the ice out by hand or connect a chute at the ice tray |
| Chute gets nothing | chute in the wrong place | the chute belongs in front of the ice tray, 1 m above the floor |
| Display: OUTPUT CLOSED | output closed | OUTPUT button or Open = 1 |
| Message "connections in the ground" | the well sits deep in the terrain | clear the terrain in front of the cabinet with the mining drill or build on frames |
| Delivers ice instead of water | cold planet | intended; Modus = Wasser forces water |
