Game cables burn out at 5 kW, 100 kW or 500 kW. Power Cable+ (Stromkabel+) has no limit: overload never burns it out. The game already uses this principle for the cable terminals of its power pylons. It comes in all 11 shapes of the super heavy cable, each with its own 3D model, its own wreck and its own cable coil. You build it like a game cable, including with the Cable Gun and the Electrical Belt. Names, Stationpedia and tooltip appear in German or English, depending on the game language.
Overview
| Cable | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| normal cable | 5 kW | game |
| heavy cable | 100 kW | game |
| super heavy cable | 500 kW | game |
| Extreme Cable | 10 MW (adjustable 1–1000 MW) | separate mod |
| Power Cable+ | unlimited | this mod |
The model: glossy dark blue jacket with four glowing cyan stripes, chrome collars and chrome clamps, junction boxes with glowing dots.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation
- Mod in the active mod pack
- An Electronics Printer at tier 2 for the cable coil
- In multiplayer: the server and all players
Building and recipes
| Coil | Machine | Cost | Time | Energy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Power Cable+ | Electronics Printer, tier 2 | 1 constantan, 1 electrum, 0.5 Inconel, 0.5 Hastelloy | 16 s | 3000 J |
For comparison: the super heavy coil costs 0.5 constantan and 0.5 electrum. The stack size is the same as for the super heavy coil. The recipe is in GameData/stromkabelplus.xml in the mod folder.
Tier 2 means the Electronics Printer has been upgraded: hold the Electronic Printer Mod in one hand and the screwdriver in the other, then use it on the printer.
Shapes
One coil builds all 11 shapes. Connections, rotations and cost per piece are the same as for the super heavy cable. The order matches the shape selection.
| Shape | Coils | Prefab |
|---|---|---|
| straight | 1 | StructureCablePlusStraight |
| corner | 1 | StructureCablePlusCorner |
| junction | 2 | StructureCablePlusJunction |
| 4-way junction | 2 | StructureCablePlusJunction4 |
| 5-way junction | 3 | StructureCablePlusJunction5 |
| 6-way junction | 3 | StructureCablePlusJunction6 |
| 3-way corner | 3 | StructureCablePlusCorner3 |
| 4-way corner | 3 | StructureCablePlusCorner4 |
| straight 3 (over 3 cells) | 3 | StructureCablePlusStraight3 |
| straight 5 | 4 | StructureCablePlusStraight5 |
| straight 10 | 7 | StructureCablePlusStraight10 |
The coil is ItemCableCoilPlus. The wrecks have Burnt at the end, for example StructureCablePlusStraightBurnt.
Building
- Take the Power Cable+ coil in your hand.
- Right-click opens the shape selection, the mouse wheel picks the shape. With the selection closed, the mouse wheel rotates the preview.
- Place it like any game cable.
- Merging: wire cutters in the other hand, then build onto an existing power cable+. It turns into the matching corner or junction.
- Deconstruct with the wire cutters, you get the coil back.
- Cable Gun: put the coil in and lay long runs in one go.
- Electrical Belt: takes the coil as a refill, just like the game coils.
Connecting to other cables
- End to end Power Cable+ connects to every cable: normal, heavy, super heavy and Extreme Cable. Together they form one network. Devices connect as usual.
- Within one cell there is only ever one kind of cable, as in the game. A power cable+ can't be merged with a game cable and won't fit into a cell that already holds another cable.
The weakest part still counts
The game compares a network's power flow with every cable and every fuse in it. The power flow is the smaller of what the generators can supply and what the consumers need. If it is above the limit of a part, a part that is too weak burns out – fuses first. Power Cable+ itself is never too weak.
So a network is only unlimited if it consists entirely of Power Cable+:
- A single super heavy cable in the network sets the limit to 500 kW.
- An extreme cable in the network sets it to 10 MW, or to the value configured there.
- A fuse in the network sets its own limit.
Separate consumer networks with thinner cables through a transformer or a power supply. Before and after it are then two separate networks.
Run the main line from the power plant in Power Cable+ and put a transformer at its end. Behind it, the consumers sit on game cables in a network of their own.
Looking at the cable
When you look at a power cable+, the tooltip also shows:
| Line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Capacity | unlimited |
| Network load | current power flow, only while something is flowing |
| Weakest part in this network (orange) | appears when a game cable, an extreme cable or a fuse is in the same network, with its name and limit. It burns out first above that. |
The weakest part is searched again at most once per second. The Stationpedia shows the limit as "unlimited".
Destroying it
Power Cable+ never burns out from overload. Only a welding torch destroys it. What remains is a burnt power cable+ with its own model (open jacket, copper strands) that no longer conducts. Remove it with wire cutters (returns nothing) and build a new piece.
IC10, console and settings
None. Cables have no logic values in the game, the mod has no console commands and no settings.
Together with other mods
- Extreme Cable runs side by side without problems: its own kind of cable, its own names. Connected end to end, both form one network – with the limit of the extreme cable.
- If you want to run gas, water and power together, use the Fluix Line. Its "Unlimited" variant also carries power without a limit, bundled with a gas pipe and a water line in one cell.
Multiplayer
New cables: the server and all players need the mod. See Multiplayer.
Without the mod, built Power Cable+ pieces disappear from the save and the networks fall apart. Back up your save before removing or updating the mod.
Known limitations
- Only the cable itself is unlimited. If a piece of game cable, an extreme cable or a fuse is still in the network, that limit applies.
- Only one kind of cable fits in one cell. Power Cable+ and game cables only connect end to end; there is no shared junction.
- Some of the game's power readouts overflow from about 2.1 GW and then show wrong numbers. This only affects the display.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Network burns out despite Power Cable+ | game cable, extreme cable or fuse in the network | look at a power cable+: the weakest part is shown in orange in the tooltip. Replace it or separate it with a transformer |
| Orange warning in the tooltip | weaker part in the same network | as above |
| Cable can't be placed | another cable already sits in that cell | use another cell and connect end to end |
| Merging with a game cable doesn't work | different kinds of cable never merge | connect end to end |
| Coil missing in the Electronics Printer | the recipe is tier 2 | upgrade the printer to tier 2 |
| Cables gone after loading | mod missing from the active pack | see mod packs, restore a backup |
| Burnt power cable+ in the way | hit with a welding torch | remove it with wire cutters and build a new piece |
