The game's super heavy cable carries 500 kW. The Extreme Cable (Extrem-Kabel) carries 10 MW, twenty times as much, and can be set anywhere from 1 to 1000 MW. It comes in all 11 shapes of the super heavy cable, each with its own 3D model, its own wreck and its own cable coil. You build it like a game cable, including with the Cable Gun and the Electrical Belt. Names, Stationpedia and tooltip appear in German or English, depending on the game language.
Overview
| Cable | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| normal cable | 5 kW | game |
| heavy cable | 100 kW | game |
| super heavy cable | 500 kW | game |
| Extreme Cable | 10 MW (adjustable 1–1000 MW) | this mod |
| Power Cable+ | unlimited | separate mod |
The model: thick black jacket with an orange marker band and red rings, steel collars at the ends, junction boxes with a warning sign.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation
- Mod in the active mod pack
- An Electronics Printer at tier 2 for the cable coil
- In multiplayer: the server and all players
Building and recipes
| Coil | Machine | Cost | Time | Energy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extreme Cable | Electronics Printer, tier 2 | 1 constantan, 1 electrum, 0.5 Inconel | 12 s | 1500 J |
For comparison: the super heavy coil costs 0.5 constantan and 0.5 electrum. The stack size is the same as for the super heavy coil. The recipe is in GameData/extremkabel.xml in the mod folder.
Tier 2 means the Electronics Printer has been upgraded: hold the Electronic Printer Mod in one hand and the screwdriver in the other, then use it on the printer.
Shapes
One coil builds all 11 shapes. Connections, rotations and cost per piece are the same as for the super heavy cable. The order matches the shape selection.
| Shape | Coils | Prefab |
|---|---|---|
| straight | 1 | StructureCableExtremStraight |
| corner | 1 | StructureCableExtremCorner |
| junction | 2 | StructureCableExtremJunction |
| 4-way junction | 2 | StructureCableExtremJunction4 |
| 5-way junction | 3 | StructureCableExtremJunction5 |
| 6-way junction | 3 | StructureCableExtremJunction6 |
| 3-way corner | 3 | StructureCableExtremCorner3 |
| 4-way corner | 3 | StructureCableExtremCorner4 |
| straight 3 (over 3 cells) | 3 | StructureCableExtremStraight3 |
| straight 5 | 4 | StructureCableExtremStraight5 |
| straight 10 | 7 | StructureCableExtremStraight10 |
The coil is ItemCableCoilExtrem. The wrecks have Burnt at the end, for example StructureCableExtremStraightBurnt.
Building
- Take the Extreme Cable coil in your hand.
- Right-click opens the shape selection, the mouse wheel picks the shape. With the selection closed, the mouse wheel rotates the preview.
- Place it like any game cable.
- Merging: wire cutters in the other hand, then build onto an existing extreme cable. It turns into the matching corner or junction.
- Deconstruct with the wire cutters, you get the coil back.
- Cable Gun: put the coil in and lay long runs in one go.
- Electrical Belt: takes the coil as a refill, just like the game coils.
Connecting to other cables
- End to end the extreme cable connects to every cable: normal, heavy, super heavy and Power Cable+. Together they form one network. Devices connect as usual.
- Within one cell there is only ever one kind of cable, as in the game. An extreme cable can't be merged with a game cable and won't fit into a cell that already holds another cable.
The weakest part counts
The game compares a network's power flow with every cable and every fuse in it. The power flow is the smaller of what the generators can supply and what the consumers need. If it is above the limit of a part, a part that is too weak burns out – fuses first.
For 10 MW that means:
- No game cable in the same network. A single piece of super heavy cable limits the whole network to 500 kW.
- No fuse in the same network.
- Separate consumer networks with thinner cables through a transformer or a power supply. Before and after it are then two separate networks.
Run the main line from the power plant in extreme cable and put a transformer at its end. Behind it, the consumers sit on game cables in a network of their own.
Looking at the cable
When you look at an extreme cable, the tooltip also shows:
| Line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Capacity | limit of the cable, 10 MW by default |
| Network load | current power flow, only while something is flowing |
| Weakest part in this network (orange) | appears when a weaker cable or a fuse is in the same network, with its name and limit. It burns out first above that. |
The weakest part is searched again at most once per second. The Stationpedia shows the limit as 10 MW, or the configured value if you changed it.
Burning out
On overload a piece burns out with sparks and becomes a burnt extreme cable. The wreck has its own model with an open jacket and copper strands, and it no longer conducts. Remove it with wire cutters (returns nothing) and build a new piece. A welding torch destroys an extreme cable as well.
IC10 and console
None. Cables have no logic values in the game, and the mod has no console commands.
Configuration
File: BepInEx\config\dominik1199.extremkabel.cfg, section [1 Kabel], or more conveniently through the mod settings in LaunchPad.
| Key | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| GrenzeMW | 10 | capacity of the extreme cable in megawatts, 1 to 1000. Applies after a restart. |
In multiplayer the server decides when a cable burns out. Players should enter the same value, otherwise their tooltip and Stationpedia show their own value.
Together with other mods
- Power Cable+ runs side by side without problems: its own kind of cable, its own names. Connected end to end, both form one network – with the limit of the extreme cable.
- If you want to run gas, water and power together, use the Fluix Line: three lines bundled in one cell, power up to 500 kW, or without any limit in the "Unlimited" variant.
Multiplayer
New cables: the server and all players need the mod. See Multiplayer.
Without the mod, built extreme cables disappear from the save and the networks fall apart. Back up your save before removing or updating the mod.
Known limitations
- A network is only as strong as its weakest part. If a piece of game cable or a fuse is still in it, that limit applies.
- Only one kind of cable fits in one cell. Extreme cable and game cables only connect end to end; there is no shared junction.
GrenzeMWonly applies after a restart.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Network burns out at 500 kW already | super heavy cable or fuse in the network | look at an extreme cable: the weakest part is shown in orange in the tooltip. Replace it or separate it with a transformer |
| Orange warning in the tooltip | weaker cable or fuse in the same network | as above |
| Extreme cable burns out | more than 10 MW in the network | split the network or raise GrenzeMW |
| Cable can't be placed | another cable already sits in that cell | use another cell and connect end to end |
| Merging with a game cable doesn't work | different kinds of cable never merge | connect end to end |
| Coil missing in the Electronics Printer | the recipe is tier 2 | upgrade the printer to tier 2 |
| New limit has no effect | GrenzeMW only applies after a restart | restart the game |
| Another player sees a different value in the tooltip | different GrenzeMW than on the server | enter the same value; the server decides when it burns out |
| Cables gone after loading | mod missing from the active pack | see mod packs, restore a backup |
| Burnt extreme cable in the way | overload or welding torch | remove it with wire cutters and build a new piece |
