With Drag Build you no longer place frames, walls, floors, windows, cables, pipes and chutes one by one: hold left click and drag, and all parts appear when you release. A short click still builds exactly one part – normal building is unchanged. All texts appear in English or German, depending on the game language.
Requirements
- Stationeers 0.2.6428, BepInEx 5.4.23.5, StationeersLaunchPad 1.0, see Installation
- Mod in the active mod pack
- Multiplayer: whoever wants to drag; ideally the server too (see below)
Controls
| Input | Effect |
|---|---|
| Hold left click and drag | the game builds the start part on press, the rest appears on release |
| Short click | exactly one part, as always |
| Z | next shape (Shift backwards), also before dragging |
| Mouse wheel for box and room | height in layers, up or down |
| Mouse wheel otherwise | as in the game: kit variant or rotation |
| Right click or Esc while dragging | cancel, placement mode stays |
Z goes by the label on the key: on QWERTY and QWERTZ keyboards alike it is the key marked Z. Set a different key with TasteForm.
The cursor's rotation and variant apply to all parts. You may walk while dragging – that makes long lines and big areas possible.
Shapes
| Shape | Grid parts (frames, pipes, cables, devices) | Walls, floors, windows |
|---|---|---|
| Line | along the longest direction, also vertical | in the wall plane |
| Area | full rectangle in the two longest directions | full wall or floor area |
| Outline | only the rectangle's outline | walls around the dragged floor area; floor plates: outline |
| Box | block, height with the mouse wheel | walls around in several layers; floor plates stacked (storeys) |
| Room | hollow shell (floor, ceiling, outer walls) | walls around plus floor and ceiling |
With walls the start wall is always part of the outline: the room lies on the side you drag towards. Drag through the start wall and the room begins behind it. Floor and ceiling are only added if the part may lie that way. Wall-mounted parts (lights, switches, signs) support line, area and outline on one wall.
Preview
Every part is shown as a box, the green ones also as a blueprint. One single mesh is drawn instead of hundreds of copies.
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| green | will be built |
| red | not possible: blocked, no support, you stand in the cell, item in the way |
| orange | free, but not enough material |
| grey | farther than MaxAbstandMeter or over the MaxTeile limit |
| blue | start part, already built |
At the cursor you see shape and size (e.g. "Area 6 × 4 = 24"), "Builds 23 of 24", material needed/available, the reason for the first red part, the build time of large structures and the keys.
Material and rules
- Every part is checked like a single build (build rules, wall mounting, merging pipes and cables) and uses as much as a single build.
- If the stack runs short, parts are built from the start point outwards as far as it lasts.
- Structures with a placement wait are built at the pace of that wait.
- Nothing is used up with the Authoring Tool or with Creative Mode+.
- Rocket hulls are excluded (the game's own merge logic).
Multiplayer
| Server | What happens |
|---|---|
| with Drag Build | A drag is sent as one message. The server checks itself: kit in your hand, material per part, reach, count and build rules. It builds throttled (TeileProBild) and reports the result. |
| without Drag Build | Every part is sent as the game's normal build message, like a click, limited to your material. Can be switched off with OhneServerMod. |
Clients without the mod can join; only whoever wants to drag needs it. The mod runs on the dedicated server. The server enforces its limits and permission. See Multiplayer.

Configuration

| MaxHoehe | 16 | layers for box and room |
| TeileProBild | 8 | parts per frame on the server, or single messages per frame |
| MitspielerErlaubt | on | server: clients may drag |
| ServerPruefung | on | server additionally checks every part with the build rules |
| OhneServerMod | on | client: drag on servers without Drag Build too |
Good to know
- Pipes and cables: all parts take the cursor rotation. For a straight run turn the straight piece along the drag; place corners and junctions one by one or with the cable gun.
- Multi-kits: the chosen variant applies to all parts, material per part follows it.
- Cancel: the start part stays – it is the normal click.
- No new items and nothing in the save – add or remove the mod any time.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Everything red | a game rule forbids it, the reason is shown at the cursor | change position or rotation, remove obstacles |
| Grey "over the limit" | more parts than MaxTeile | build in several drags or raise the limit |
| Grey "too far" | part farther than MaxAbstandMeter | walk along while dragging |
| Orange | stack too small | take more kits into your hand |
| Pipe pieces not connected | cursor rotated across the drag | turn the straight piece lengthwise |
| Only one part in multiplayer | server forbids dragging, or lacks the mod and OhneServerMod is off | ziehbau status shows the mode |
